2023 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

Compact luxury SUVs abound, but the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque stands out as something special. It has styling that is unlike anything else on the road, as well as the legendary off-road capabilities associated with the Range Rover name. Not only that, but it's also a luxurious and comfortable daily driver.

The Evoque is powered by a 246-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine known as the P250, and it comes standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The Evoque achieved a 7.1-second zero-to-60-mph time on our test track. Rivals such as the BMW X1 and the Volvo XC40 achieved slightly faster times, but the Land Rover remains competitively lively.

The more powerful P300 powertrain is only available in the top-spec HST R-Dynamic model. The engine produces 296 horsepower and is aided by a 48-volt hybrid system; the P300 achieved a 6.6-second zero-to-60-mph time on our test track. On the road, the Evoque cannot be mistaken for a hatchback, as the X1 can. It feels substantial, and the seat height is SUV-appropriate; it handles corners adequately, but not as well as the BMW or Mercedes-Benz GLA-class.
