2022 Cadillac CT4

The 2022 CT4 sedan, which serves as the Cadillac brand's entry point, offers a taste of the playfulness found in its more expensive and higher-performance siblings. Its sharp handling and attractive styling also indicate that it is capable of competing with European compact-sedan rivals such as the BMW 2-series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz A-class.

The engine is either a 237-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a turbo 2.7-liter that produces up to 325-hp in top-spec V-Series trim. That model, by the way, should not be confused with the faster CT4-V Blackwing, which we cover separately. Our main criticism of the CT4 is the same one we've levelled at other Cadillac models: the interior materials and ambiance fall short of those of luxury-branded competitors, which provide a more premium look and feel.

2022 Cadillac CT4 Price

The 2022 Cadillac CT4 will have a starting price of around $34,000. A fully equipped CT4-V Blackwing costs $87,775.

2022 Cadillac CT4 Engine

Buyers have the option of two turbocharged four-cylinder engines: The base Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport models are powered by a 237-hp 2.0-liter engine, while a 2.7-liter is optional in the Premium Luxury and standard in the CT4-V. It produces 309 hp in the former and 325 horses in the latter. The smaller of the two engines is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the larger four is mated to a ten-speed.

Rear-wheel drive is the standard configuration, which is uncommon in this segment. Front-drive chassis are used by competitors such as the Audi A3, BMW 2-series Gran Coupe, and Mercedes A-class. All-wheel drive is available as an option on all CT4 models. We drove the CT4-V and found it to be athletic, eager, and quick, though the 10-speed transmission could have been more refined. Even in its most sporty configuration, the Caddy's suspension handles potholes without punishing occupants and delivers sharp, rewarding handling that any car enthusiast will appreciate.

2022 Cadillac CT4 Fuel

Both of the CT4's turbocharged four-cylinder engines get good gas mileage. Rear-wheel-drive models with the 2.0-liter engine are rated at 23 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. Choosing all-wheel drive reduces highway mileage by 2 mpg and combined mileage by 1. The more powerful 2.7-liter engine is less efficient, but only marginally so, with the rear-drive model achieving 20 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The CT4's main competitors, the Audi A3, the BMW 2-series Gran Coupe, and the Mercedes-Benz A-class, all have comparable fuel-economy ratings.

Inside the CT4, Cadillac wisely chose a more user-friendly control layout over the ATS's largely touch-sensitive interface. Although the interior design and material quality appear appealing at first glance, they are ultimately unremarkable. Cabin space is limited for adults, particularly in the rear seats, but Cadillac includes several luxury features as standard equipment, including 12-way power-adjustable front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control, even on the base trim. Moving up the range unlocks more desirable features like leather upholstery, magnesium paddle shifters, ambient interior lighting, and memory settings for the driver's seat and outside mirrors.

All CT4s include an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with the most up-to-date CUE software. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces, as well as an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, are standard. Navigation is available on all Cadillac models. It includes a 14-speaker Bose stereo system, which replaces the car's standard eight-speaker setup.

2022 Cadillac CT4 Safety

Cadillac includes a slew of driver-assist features as standard, but its high-tech Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving mode is only available on Premium Luxury and Sport trims. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information on the CT4's crash-test results. The following are important safety features:

Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection is standard.

Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist is standard.

Adaptive cruise control is available, as well as a semi-autonomous driving mode.

2022 Cadillac CT4 Warranty

Cadillac outperforms its competitors by providing two additional years and 20,000 additional miles of coverage on the powertrain portion of its warranty, but buyers of the 2-series Gran Coupe receive three years of complimentary maintenance, whereas the CT4 only provides one free visit.

The limited warranty period is four years or 50,000 miles.

The powertrain warranty is valid for six years or 70,000 miles.

For the first visit, maintenance is provided at no cost.
