2021 Kia Telluride Engine

Home
The Kia Telluride has a 3.8-liter V6 engine that generates 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission are standard, with all-wheel drive available. In everyday driving, this V6 feels nimble and eager. It quickly gets the Telluride around town and up to speed, and it has enough passing power on the highway. The refined transmission shifts smoothly and quickly.

2021 Kia Telluride Engine

Every Telluride is powered by a naturally aspirated V-6 engine with 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Its engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels in the standard configuration—all-wheel drive is also available as an option. The top-tier Telluride SX we tested reached 60 mph in 7.1 seconds. However, at lower speeds, the big Kia didn't feel as responsive to throttle inputs as some of its turbocharged rivals.

The Telluride's ride is firm, with rough pavement occasionally throwing the three-row SUV off course. There is also a self-leveling rear air suspension option. The brakes are excellent, and the steering is precise and has a nice heft to it. For off-road adventures, the Telluride has 8.0 inches of ground clearance and can tow up to 5000 pounds.

2021 Kia Telluride Ride and Handling

2021 Kia Telluride Engine

The Kia Telluride may appear large and intimidating, but it drives like a much smaller vehicle. The steering is quick and light, and it's simple to get in and out of tight parking spaces. The Telluride feels stable and composed in tight turns, and the suspension comfortably absorbs road bumps and dips – at least in models with the standard 18-inch wheels. The optional 20-inch wheels and low-profile tyres make the ride a little more nervous and jittery, but not to the point of discomfort. Furthermore, the brakes confidently slow down this SUV.

2021 Kia Telluride Off-Road Performance

For handling slick and snowy conditions, the Kia Telluride has 8 inches of ground clearance, a front skid plate, and available traction control modes. It's more than capable of navigating a gravel road or a seasonal access trail, but it's not designed for serious off-road driving.

2021 Kia Telluride Towing Capacity

When properly equipped, the Kia Telluride can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
