The Ford Escape is an excellent compact SUV. This crossover offers a powerful turbo-four engine option, above-average mpg estimates with the base turbo-three engine, engaging handling, and a smooth ride. Inside, there is plenty of room for passengers to stretch out and plenty of cargo space. Having said that, this Ford has a lot of hard plastics in its cabin, and the transmission occasionally hunts for the right gear.
2021 Ford Escape Safety
The Ford Escape has received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick award (IIHS). Ford includes a suite of driver-assistance features known as Co-Pilot360 as standard on all Escape models. The following are important safety features:
Forward collision warning with automated emergency braking is standard.
Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist is standard.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard.
Should I Buy the Ford Escape?
While the Ford Escape is a good buy, it's always a good idea to shop around, especially in the competitive small SUV segment. The Toyota RAV4 comes with more standard features and has better off-road capability than the Escape, while the Honda CR-V has a more spacious cabin and a larger cargo capacity. If you prefer a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, Ford offers both with the Escape Hybrid.
