While there are some nice materials in the Ford Escape's cabin, there are also several areas with cheap-feeling plastics, lowering its appeal.

While the cabin of the Escape is attractively styled and spacious for both front- and rear-seat occupants, it suffers from a number of low-quality plastic panels, including those on the doors and lower centre console. Standard seat upholstery is highly textured cloth, while higher trim levels get convincing faux-leather seating surfaces or genuine leather in the Titanium. The spacious cargo hold behind the Escape's rear seat can accommodate up to eight carry-on suitcases, matching its crosstown rival, the Chevrolet Equinox. We were able to fit 21 cases in the Escape with the rear seats folded, but the Equinox held two more.

The Escape has between 33.5 and 37.5 cubic feet of space behind the second row, depending on how the sliding rear seats are positioned. Behind the first row, there is a total of 65.4 cubic feet of space. That's a lot of cargo space for the class.

How Many People Does the Escape Seat?

This Ford can accommodate up to five passengers. While it isn't the most spacious vehicle in the class, this small SUV still has plenty of space. The rear seats can be slid back for more legroom or forward for more cargo capacity. Some reviewers believe the front seats are well-cushioned, while others believe they could be plusher.

Cloth upholstery is the norm. There is a choice of synthetic or genuine leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

For the Escape's rear outboard seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors. There's also a tether anchor for the middle seat in the back, which can borrow a lower anchor from each side. This LATCH system received the highest rating of Good+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, indicating that it is among the easiest and most versatile to use.
