2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar

The 2022 Range Rover Velar is Land Rover's style-focused compact SUV, and it earns its place alongside its luxurious brethren by providing a high-class ambiance. The Velar is available with either a turbocharged four-cylinder or a turbocharged-and-supercharged inline-six engine, but its chassis lacks the poise and verve we find appealing in rival SUVs like the BMW X3, Genesis GV70, or Porsche Macan. If you're looking for a more comfortable cruiser, the Velar is a better option, especially if a stylish, high-tech cabin is important to you. A widescreen infotainment system is standard, and the interior design complements the avant-garde styling of the exterior.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Price

The Range Rover Velar starts at $58,300, which is higher than the class average. The top-of-the-line Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic HSE starts at $78,900. That isn't among the most expensive top-trim prices in the class, but there are plenty of competitors with less expensive high-end models.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Engine

The base engine is a 247-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that performs admirably but struggles to move the Velar's considerable weight. A four-cylinder Velar was sampled for a 40,000-mile long-term test, and it took 7.4 seconds to reach 60 mph. The turbocharged and supercharged 3.0-liter inline-six will undoubtedly provide better acceleration performance, but we have yet to test this new powertrain, which is available in 335- or 395-hp configurations.

The Velar's handling, like its acceleration, is far from sporty. The suspension competently controls the SUV's body motions and maintains body roll while providing a firm, well-managed ride. Models with available air suspension can adjust their ride height for more dynamic moves on the road or greater dexterity off it.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Fuel

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar's inline-six engine has an EPA rating of 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, but the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is slightly more efficient, with ratings of 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. In our highway fuel economy test at 75 mph, the four-cylinder Velar returned only 26 mpg.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Interior

Do you like modern architecture? You'll probably appreciate the Velar's simple interior, which is dominated by horizontal lines and bold rectilinear forms. Oh, and the materials used throughout are of high quality and are used in novel ways. Consider the door trim: Instead of incorporating a spear of wood or carbon fibre into the upper portion of the door panels, Land Rover incorporates the owner's choice of wood or metal into the section of the door between the upper and lower panels. We used aluminium trim, and each Velar is meticulously detailed throughout.

With its rear seats up or folded, the Velar's generally boxy shape and visually appealing rear overhang (bodywork that extends behind the rear wheels) combine to swallow more carry-on suitcases than its immediate competitors. We were able to fit 10 carry-ons behind the back seats and 23 with all seats folded.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Infotainment

Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention the interior's incredibly futuristic dual dashboard-touchscreen displays. These dual 10.0-inch displays run Land Rover's new Pivi Pro infotainment interface, which is easier to use and more responsive than last year's InControl Touch Pro system, but it is not without flaws. Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, voice control, eight speakers, in-dash navigation, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration are all included as standard features. A better audio system with more speakers and SiriusXM satellite radio necessitates additional options or a trim level upgrade in the Velar.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Safety

On the Velar, Land Rover offers cutting-edge driver-assist technologies such as automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information on the Velar's crash-test results. The following are important safety features:

Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection is standard.

Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist are standard features.

Adaptive cruise control with steering assist is available.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Warranty

The Velar's four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty is fairly standard among its competitors. Interestingly, Jaguar's mechanically similar F-Pace comes with a longer warranty as well as a five-year, 60,000-mile complimentary scheduled maintenance plan, which Land Rover only offers as a dealer option.

The limited warranty period is four years or 50,000 miles.

The powertrain warranty is valid for four years or 50,000 miles.

There is no free scheduled maintenance.
