Range Rover Sport Review

If you want the opulence and prestige that only a Range Rover can provide but don't have the net worth to afford one, the 2022 Range Rover Sport has a lower starting price and few compromises. All models include all-wheel drive and Land Rover's signature off-road capability, which is a luxury in and of itself, even if most owners never test the Range Rover Sport's capabilities. The turbocharged inline-six engine provides plenty of power for zipping around town or merging onto the highway, and the Sport's luxury-lined cabin is comfortable and spacious, with the exception of the third row, which is only big enough for kids.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Price

The base price of the Range Rover Sport SE is $69,500. Even in a class that isn't exactly bursting at the seams with low-cost options, that's an above-average starting point. The Range Rover Sport SVR Carbon Edition, the most expensive trim in the lineup, has a starting MSRP of $130,000. That is one of the most expensive top-trim prices in the class.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Engine

Every 2022 Range Rover Sport is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine, Land Rover's excellent all-wheel-drive system, and an outstanding eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 355 horsepower with the help of a 48-volt hybrid system. However, we prefer the more powerful 395-hp version, which is only available on the HST model. It's extremely smooth and has a lot of muscle. The HST reached 60 mph in 6.0 seconds in our testing. Land Rover claims a top speed of 140 miles per hour.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Fuel

Regardless of the power output of the inline-six, the Range Rover Sport received EPA fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. These ratings place it squarely between six-cylinder BMW X5 variants and the Genesis GV80.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Interior

The interior dimensions of the 2022 Range Rover Sport are nearly identical to those of the full-size Range Rover model. Both SUVs have the same 115-inch wheelbase, which allows the Range Rover Sport to have more rear-seat space than many of its competitors.

Unlike the Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport has a small, kid-friendly third-row seat that increases seating capacity from five to seven. Its front seats are firm and supportive, even on long drives, and rear-seat air-conditioning vents and controls are standard. Rear heated seats are available. The build quality is excellent, with soft surfaces and controls that look and feel high-end. A generous 28 cubic feet of cargo space is available behind the Range Rover Sport's second row. The reclining second row of the Rover easily folds flat, increasing the space to 59 cubic feet, which is about average for the midsize luxury SUV class.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Infotainment

The Range Rover Sport's climate and infotainment systems, which were significantly redesigned just a few years ago, are controlled by two large 10.0-inch touchscreens. The design is undeniably contemporary and appealing. It's also easy to use, with simple menus and clean graphics, but the infotainment system is a little slow to respond to user inputs. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and a 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver displays a fully configurable digital gauge cluster.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Safety

Many desirable driver-assistance technology systems are available from Land Rover, but many, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, are optional, which is disappointing given the SUV's high price. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information on the Range Rover Sport's crash-test results. The following are important safety features:

Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are standard features.

Typical lane-departure warning

Adaptive cruise control is available.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Warranty

The warranty coverage on the Range Rover Sport is about average for its class, but it does not include free scheduled maintenance. Three of its main competitors, the BMW X5 and X7, as well as the Volvo XC90, include three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance.

The limited warranty period is four years or 50,000 miles.

The powertrain warranty is valid for four years or 50,000 miles.

There is no free scheduled maintenance.
