2022 Ford Super Duty Engine

If Ford knows how to build anything, it's a great pickup truck. That describes the 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty, which has class-leading towing and payload ratings as well as a variety of trim levels, cab styles, and powertrain options. The F-250 Super Duty delivers whether you need a basic work truck, a loaded luxury truck, or a capable off-roading truck.

The F-250 and F-350 are equipped with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque as standard. While a six-speed automatic transmission is standard, most Super Dutys have a 10-speed automatic transmission. All powertrains are available with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and all models are available with more powerful engine options. The gas-fed 7.3-liter V-8 generates 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque, while the mighty Power Stroke diesel 6.7-liter V-8 generates 475 horsepower and a whopping 1050 pound-feet of torque. The Super Duty also comes with an off-road package called Tremor, which includes a lift kit, beefier tyres, and other trail-ready upgrades.

These heavy-duty Fords perform as one would expect from large rigs capable of towing up to 19 tonnes. When the bed is empty, the ride is stiff and bouncy, but these sensations fade when the bed is loaded or a trailer is attached. The more expensive trims do a better job of muting wind and road noise on the highway, but all models—even those with the optional adaptive steering, which Ford claims is "more connected and engaging"—have a ponderous feeling on the highway, which is exacerbated by the helm's disconnected feedback. Despite this, the trucks we tested had firm and responsive brake pedals, and their steering was manageable at low speeds and in tight spaces, where manoeuvring the longest models can be difficult.

2022 Ford Super Duty Towing and Payload Capacity

The Super Duty has a wide range of maximum towing and payload capacities thanks to a variety of cab and cargo bed configurations. Every model receives favourable ratings in both categories, but Ford fans seeking the most impressive figures will appreciate that the most powerful Super Duty can tow a 7850-pound payload, pull up to 24,200 pounds with a conventional trailer hitch, and tow a massive 37,000 pounds with a fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch.
