2022 Ford F-150 Raptor Engine

Ford makes no significant changes to the F-150 Raptor for 2022. However, we anticipate that the much-anticipated Raptor R—likely with a 700-plus-hp supercharged V-8—will make its debut this year.

The 2022 F-150 Raptor is only available in a crew-cab body style known as SuperCrew. While there are several individual options and packages available, we recommend the comprehensive 801A High package, which includes features such as a 4.10 front-axle ratio, an 18-speaker B&O sound system, an interior work surface, a heated steering wheel, high-tech trailering assists, upgraded headlights, wireless charging, and more. The only other option we'd recommend is the Power Tech pack, which includes a 2-kW ProPower onboard generator.

The familiar high-output version of Ford's 450-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 is housed beneath the new hood of the F-150 Raptor, which now includes a prominent heat extractor. It breathes through a new 3.0-inch exhaust system that, according to reports, improves the truck's V-6 soundtrack. The engine is still paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters that feeds all four wheels via a standard all-wheel-drive system. If that isn't enough for you, simply wait. Ford intends to counter Ram's 702-hp, half-ton pickup truck, dubbed the TRX, with an equally potent engine in the upcoming Raptor R.

According to rumours, the Shelby GT500's 760-hp supercharged V-8 will be used in the R. Every Raptor, regardless of powertrain, rides on a sophisticated suspension that includes larger internal-bypass dampers and a five-link rear coil-spring setup. The version we tested demonstrated the truck's exceptional traction and ride quality even on the most treacherous terrain. Along with other chassis upgrades, a choice of 17-inch rims, and a standard set of 35-inch tyres, the Raptor is also available with a set of 37-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tyres for improved approach, departure, and breakover angles, as well as increased ground clearance from 12.0 to 13.1 inches.
