2023 Land Rover Defender Engine

The Land Rover Defender is Land Rover's most rugged all-terrain vehicle, but it's still more refined than rival SUVs like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. However, that refinement and luxury come at a cost, which can range from tens of thousands of dollars depending on trim and options. However, when it comes to exploring the great outdoors in style, the Defender is hard to beat.

2023 Land Rover Defender Engine

The Land Rover Defender is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, all models have four-wheel drive and locking differentials to help them navigate treacherous terrain. The Defender also comes with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with an electric supercharger and a 48-volt hybrid system. Buyers seeking more power can opt for the 518-hp supercharged V-8, which we estimate will propel the Defender to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

The Defender, unlike its predecessor, has a unibody construction rather than a body-on-frame setup, and it replaces the old solid axles with a fully independent suspension. The standard suspension is made up of coil springs, but it can be upgraded to include air springs that allow for adjustable ride height. The Defender has 11.5 inches of ground clearance and can ford 35 inches of water, outperforming both the Jeep Wrangler's maximum clearance and wading ability.
