2022 Kia Sportage Fuel

The Kia Sportage ranks near the bottom of its segment in terms of fuel economy, trailing the Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V. According to the EPA, the front-drive, base-engine Sportage gets 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. When all-wheel drive is added, those figures drop by 1 and 4 mpg, respectively. The EPA estimates 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway for the front-drive turbo model, but those figures drop to 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway with all-wheel drive. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, the all-wheel-drive SX Turbo returned a measly 23 mpg. The Kia's real-world fuel economy is significantly lower than the 29 mpg we observed in an all-wheel-drive, turbocharged CX-5.

Kia Sportage Gas Mileage

The fuel economy of the 2022 Kia Sportage is below average for the compact SUV class. Models with the base engine and front-wheel drive get 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. Models with the base engine and all-wheel drive get 22 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway.

While small turbocharged engines are generally more efficient than comparable naturally aspirated mills, the Sportage is not one of them. Front-wheel-drive turbocharged models get 20/28 mpg city/highway, while AWD turbo models get 19/24 mpg.
