2022 Kia Rio Engine

The Kia Rio comes standard with a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission. The Rio has adequate power for a subcompact car, but the engine is quite loud when pushed hard.

2022 Kia Rio Engine

The Kia Rio is powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine producing 120 horsepower, with a continuously variable automatic transmission as the only transmission option. It's not the fastest car on the road, but a 2021 hatchback model we tested reached 60 mph in 8.6 seconds, which is comparable to many subcompact crossovers. More impressively, for such a small car, the Rio absorbs bumps well thanks to its solid structure and well-tuned suspension. It also does a good job of keeping body roll under control in corners. The numb steering isn't as communicative as we'd like, but it's nicely weighted and precise.

Kia Rio Ride and Handling

Because of its small size and turning radius, the Kia Rio is easy to manoeuvre. Its suspension system is also tuned for a comfortable ride. The standard drivetrain is front-wheel drive.
