As the Cadillac brand's flagship—and thus the entirety of General Motors' portfolio—the 2022 Escalade SUV offers every high-tech item as well as the ultimate in luxury features. Fortunately, due to the Escalade's massive size, Cadillac was able to include many of those features. The cabin is lined with fine leather, genuine wood, and gleaming metal trims. The dashboard is dominated by a massive, curved digital display that serves up both infotainment and driver-gauge displays in an unusual manner.

2022 Cadillac Escalade Price

The Cadillac Escalade Luxury is priced starting at $76,295. That is not the lowest starting price in the class, but it is close, as many competitors begin at or above $85,000. The top-tier Platinum trims of the Escalade start at $101,595. This is a lower-than-average top-trim price for the class.

2022 Cadillac Escalade Engine

2022 Cadillac Escalade Engine

Cadillac's largest SUV is powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 engine with 420 horsepower and the ability to deactivate half of its cylinders while cruising to save fuel, or a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter inline-six. Both engines will come standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and buyers will be able to choose between rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations based on their specific needs.

The Escalade, like its siblings, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and the GMC Yukon, has an independent rear suspension to help provide a smooth ride. Air suspension with adaptive dampers that use computer-controlled shock absorbers is also available on higher-end models. The long-wheelbase Escalade ESV with the V-8 engine reached 60 mph in 5.9 seconds on our test track. The diesel engine sounds less refined than the V-8, but for some buyers, the improved fuel economy and low-end torque are worth the trade-off.

Escalades with rear-wheel drive are rated at 15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined; adding all-wheel drive reduces each of those figures by 1 mpg. The previous generation model had highway ratings as high as 23 mpg, and the Escalade's main rival–the Lincoln Navigator–also has more efficient ratings. Choosing the turbo-diesel engine saves money, with EPA estimates as high as 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. An all-wheel drive Escalade with the optional diesel engine returned 26 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route.

The Cadillac Escalade 2022 raises the bar on in-cabin luxury as the company's flagship model. The base Luxury trim is made of faux leather, but all other trims are made of genuine leather, with Platinum models getting soft semi-aniline hides. An upscale appearance is provided by leather-covered dash and door panels, aluminium speaker grilles, and adjustable interior ambient lighting. Like the previous model, a standard and long-wheelbase model are available, with the latter providing more legroom for third-row passengers and additional cargo space.

2022 Cadillac Escalade Infotainment

Cadillac has completely tricked out the Escalade in the electronics department, in addition to the extra luxury features in the cabin. The main attraction is the digital dashboard, which is made up of three curved OLED displays that layer on top of one another to create a cool 38-inch of combined digital real estate, some of which serves as the driver's gauge cluster and the rest of which displays the CUE infotainment system for the driver and passenger. The array of displays is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz GLS-massive class's monolithic infotainment setup, but the Escalade's stacked arrangement creates depth and appears less tacked-on than the Benz.

An augmented-reality navigation system and an available rear-seat entertainment package with two 12.6-inch displays with streaming capability are among the other technological features. A Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration are also standard. Whatever Escalade model they choose, audiophiles will be in for a treat. Cadillac collaborated with Grammy-winning audio and acoustics company AKG to create the Escalade's standard and optional sound systems. The Luxury, Sport, and Premium Luxury trims come standard with a 19-speaker Studio Sound system, but Platinum models get the AKG Studio Reference system with a whopping 36 speakers.

2022 Cadillac Escalade Safety

Cadillac, on the other hand, is determined to make its flagship SUV a showcase for driver-assistance technology, and in addition to making many of the most popular active-safety features standard, Cadillac says it will also offer its Super Cruise semi-autonomous drive mode as an option. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information on the Escalade's crash-test results. The following are important safety features:

Front and rear pedestrian detection is standard in automated emergency braking.

Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist is standard.

Adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode is available.

2022 Cadillac Escalade Warranty

The 2022 Escalade comes standard with the same warranty package as the rest of the Cadillac lineup. Its powertrain warranty is longer than that of competitors such as the GLS-class and the BMW X7, but the BMW's complimentary scheduled maintenance plan is far superior to the Caddy's.

The limited warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles.

The powertrain warranty is valid for 6 years or 70,000 miles.

For the first visit, maintenance is provided at no cost.
