The most fuel-efficient Ford Mustang is one powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder and a 10-speed automatic transmission, with EPA ratings of 21 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. The V-8–powered Mustang got 15 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. In our testing, the four-cylinder with the manual transmission returned 24 mpg, which was 7 mpg less than the EPA rating. The V-8 with the automatic saw 24 mpg in our hands, which matched the EPA figure.

How Fast Is the Ford Mustang?

When equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission, the standard Mustang EcoBoost can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds and has a top speed of 121 mph.

Models with the EcoBoost High Performance package accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about four seconds, while an automatic-equipped Mustang GT accelerates to 60 mph in four seconds. Both of those models have a top speed of 155 mph.

The Shelby GT500 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180 mph. The Mustang Mach 1 has a top speed of 168 miles per hour.

Is the Mustang available with all-wheel drive?

The Ford Mustang is only available with rear-wheel drive. Most other sports cars and the Mustang's main competitors are only available in RWD, but the Dodge Challenger is available in all-wheel drive.
