2022 Ford F-150 Engine

When it comes to powertrains for the F-150, you have six options: a 290-horsepower V6 (the base engine), a 325-horsepower twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, a 400-horsepower EcoBoost V6, a 400-horsepower V8, a 250-horsepower turbodiesel, and the all-new F-150 hybrid, which has a total output of 430

The base V6 is adequate, but the smaller EcoBoost V6 is a better option if you primarily use the F-150 for daily commuting. If you intend to use it for heavy-duty towing, the diesel or V8 engines should be considered instead.

Regardless of what you want from your F-150, the larger EcoBoost V6 and hybrid powertrains are the most impressive. They have the best acceleration, taking off eagerly from a stop, and they always have power in reserve on the highway.

2022 Ford F-150 Gas Mileage

With its base engine and rear-wheel drive, the Ford F-150 achieves 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Those are respectable ratings for the full-size pickup truck segment. The smaller EcoBoost V6 improves slightly to 20/26 mpg city/highway.

Even if you opt for the V8, you'll get better fuel economy than many V8-powered competitors: 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

Finally, the all-new hybrid powertrain debuts with impressive mpg ratings. The F-150 gets 24 mpg in the city and on the highway when equipped with it.

2022 Ford F-150 Ride and Handling

Despite its size, the Ford F-150 is relatively easy to drive. It has a smooth ride, with the suspension easily absorbing road imperfections. On winding roads, this Ford feels composed, with good steering feel and little body lean.

2022 Ford F-150 Towing Capacity
