2022 Ford Escape Engine

By most accounts, the 2022 Ford Escape is a good SUV. The Ford Escape is quick and efficient, with composed handling and a smooth ride over rough terrain. It has an all-electric driving range of up to 37 miles when equipped as a plug-in hybrid. There's enough room for adults in both rows, and the Escape Hybrid comes with a user-friendly infotainment system and a slew of active safety features. It's also one of the more reasonably priced hybrid and electric SUVs on the market.

2022 Ford Escape Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 2022 Ford Escape is available with a variety of powertrains, beginning with a 181-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with front- or all-wheel drive. While somewhat grumbly and unrefined, the turbo three provides adequate acceleration, propelling an all-wheel-drive Escape SE to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds on our test track.

Upgrading to the 250-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is a compelling option, as it is powerful enough to achieve a 5.7-second zero-to-60-mph time in the same test. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. To compete with the Honda CR-V hybrid and Toyota RAV4 Prime, Ford offers two Escape hybrids, one of which is a plug-in hybrid, with powertrains that include a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors that produce 221 horsepower.
