2022 Ford EcoSport Engine

The Ford Ecosport weighs around 3,000 pounds, which dampens any energy generated by its turbo-3 or inline-4 engines. The struggle is palpable. It's a 3 in this case.

2022 Ford EcoSport Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The only engine options for the 2022 EcoSport are a 166-hp four-cylinder engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. Still, it's the polar opposite of fast. The EcoSport performs much better at slower speeds, gliding through congested streets with ease, but its hazy steering and noisy ride detract from the overall experience. While its ride cannot isolate the cabin from rough surfaces, our Titanium test vehicle's softly sprung suspension effectively cushioned occupants from the harshness. Unfortunately, the spongy shocks and top-heavy demeanour resulted in unruly body motions. At higher speeds, these effects were amplified.

The brake pedal on our front-drive Titanium model never felt firm, but it always responded consistently. One of the few advantages of the Ford is that it can tow 2000 pounds, which is more than most subcompact crossovers can.

All-wheel drive is available with the larger engine; it's a simple setup that can send power to the rear wheels when the fronts lose traction.
