2022 Cadillac CT5 Engine

The Cadillac CT5 is a midsize luxury sedan that was introduced in 2020 to replace the CTS. When compared to the CTS, the CT5 has a noticeably more refined interior and a plethora of more technological features. Cadillac's Super Cruise system, which allows for truly hands-free driving on designated highways, is the crown jewel.

The CT5-V Blackwing, a high-performance variant with a monster 668-horsepower V8 engine, is new for 2022. Because it's such a departure from the typical Cadillac, we covered it separately in its own review. Otherwise, we anticipate that the CT5 will remain mostly unchanged, which may be due in part to the 2020 pandemic.

2022 Cadillac CT5 Engine,Transmission, and Performance

The CT5's standard engine is a 237-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but an optional 335-hp twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 is available. The CT5-V features a 360-hp version of the twin-turbo V-6 engine, adaptive dampers, and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Both engines are mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. In our testing, a rear-drive CT5 equipped with a turbo four-cylinder accelerated to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

The CT5's main competitors, the BMW 330i and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti, completed the same test in 5.1 and 4.6 seconds, respectively. The CT5 is both more softly sprung and less athletic than the CTS it replaces in terms of ride and handling. Body control is sloppy, and the ride improvement isn't enough to justify what feels like a step backward in driving dynamics.
